The best-selling county magazine in Dorset read by more than 60,000 people in a month
Circulation
The current circulation is around 9,500, the great majority being fully paid-for sales. There is a carefully controlled free list and most of the copies returned from the trade under sale-or-return are sent out again to hospitals, hotels etc.
History
Dorset Life - The Dorset Magazine was founded as Dorset County Magazine in 1968. In 1992 it merged with Dorset Life to form one magazine which has become an institution within Dorset and a central part of the life of the county.
Editorial Policy
The editorial content of the magazine is confined almost exclusively to topics about Dorset. At least 50% of the space of each issue of magazine is devoted to editorial. The quality of the design, photography and printing is as high as possible while ensuring the continued viability of the magazine.
Readership
There are clear indications that each copy is read on average by 7-8 people. The readership is remarkably loyal, with some 80% of the magazines going to the same people each month.
Social grouping
Dorset Life reaches right across the social groupings. The only characteristic the readers have in common is an interest in all things connected to Dorset.
However there is a slight bias towards the A/B groups; of the Dorset Life readers who regularly read a daily newspaper, 42% read The Daily Telegraph, 18% The Times, 15% The Daily Mail and 8% The Express.
Geography
The readership within Dorset is distributed roughly in line with the population distribution of the county. Of the 1900 postal subscribers, about 700 live outside Dorset.
Age and gender
7% of the readers are under 40.
22% are 41-50.
23% are 51-60
