Colin Varndell’s wildlife year – the four-spotted chaser

The four-spotted chaser libellula quadrimaculata is seen throughout Dorset in early summer and is especially common on the heathlands. It habitually rests on a convenient perch waiting for smaller insects to pass by, which it catches with its bristly legs.
